Twelve years ago, VELVENOIR began somewhere between travelling, exploring and discovering. Long before it became a company, it was a way of moving through the world: arriving in new places, observing how people inhabit rooms, walking through hotels, entering exhibitions, visiting artists’ studios, collecting impressions, materials, conversations and encounters.
One of those beginnings took place in the Australian outback. The vastness, the silence, the horizon, the feeling of being surrounded by space in its most elemental form. In that landscape, where distance changes the way you look and silence makes details more present, I began to sense how strongly place can shape perception. Not only through architecture or design, but through light, material, memory, history and the people who move through it.
Through every project, every challenge, every change in direction, every budget conversation, every timeline, every request that seemed difficult at first — we found a way. Not always the easiest way. Not always the fastest. But a way that allowed us to stay close to our values: working with visual artists, supporting original artworks, building relationships with galleries, advising private collectors, and helping hospitality spaces become places of encounter rather than passage alone.
Over the past twelve years, we have turned many hospitality spaces into settings where art can be noticed, remembered and lived with. We have worked with clients who were ready to make that step with us, and who understood that art can shape how a place is perceived. We have accompanied private collectors on their own art journeys — sometimes at the beginning, sometimes at a moment of transition, sometimes through a single work that opened a new direction.
We have also continued to support the wider art world ecosystem. Every studio visit, every commission, every acquisition, every introduction, every conversation with a gallery is part of this responsibility. To work with art is also to work with the conditions that allow artists to continue and grow.
As VELVENOIR has grown, so has the understanding that our work can also create space beyond the project itself — space for visibility, exchange and giving back. For me, philanthropy begins with giving space: space to be seen, heard, protected and held. It begins with listening to what is often unheard, and with creating environments where people, stories and artistic voices can meet.
Through special projects, cultural collaborations and our Art Encounters, we have created moments where artists, collectors, clients, friends and voices from different fields come together through art. These encounters are not only events. They are spaces of exchange. Spaces where attention is shared. Spaces where a work can become the beginning of a conversation between people who may not have otherwise met.
Looking back, I feel deeply grateful.

Every project carries the visible work, but also the invisible work behind it: the research, coordination, documents, calls, logistics, installation planning, writing, problem-solving and attention to detail.
Twelve years is not only a milestone. It is a moment to pause and recognise that nothing meaningful is built alone. What began as travelling, exploring and discovering has become a shared path. A passion became a business, and that business became a way of connecting artists, collectors, spaces and people through art.
