An art collection shaped by
place, memory, and light.

For the newly reopened Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich, VELVENOIR was engaged to conceive and deliver a permanent contemporary art collection—one that would quietly echo the rhythm of Zurich itself.

Our curatorial concept, “Facets & Fragments of Zurich,” was born from the understanding that Zurich is not a singular story—it’s a city of contrasts. Lake and mountain. Heritage and innovation. Craft and capital. We sought to bring these elements into dialogue through a curated constellation of over 25 artists, working across photography, textile, ceramics, painting, sculpture, and installation. A permanent collection with over 250+ artworks are now part of the guest journey.

01. The Idea

“Who looks outside dreams; who looks inside awakes.” - C. Jung

Working in close dialogue with the Mandarin Oriental team and the design team of Tristan Auer, our role extended beyond curation—we created a fully integrated art experience that aligns with the brand’s refined sensibility while giving voice to local and international artistic perspectives and invites guests to learn more about the artists inspiration behind through a digital booklet.

The result is a collection that unfolds with each step, across suites, meeting rooms, public spaces, and hallways—each piece commissioned or selected to reflect a distinct facet of Zurich’s cultural identity.

A poetic art collection awaits you.

Our focus was not only to add local and international perspectives, but also to give female artists a voice, adding their unique artworks and perspectives to the collection and overall guest experience. We hope you enjoy the art collection while staying at the Mandarin Oriental Savoy and learn more about the unique inspirations behind each work throughout this booklet. “  – Alexandra Schafer
