“Like music, art moves
through a space —
shaping how it’s felt, step by step.”
The journey begins with a large-scale mural by Vienna-based artist Nadine Werant, weaving New York’s skyline, the pulse of jazz, and the avant-garde styles of the 1920s into a single composition. Gershwin appears at the piano, hands magnified as instruments of expression, set against the dreamlike geometry of Cubism and Surrealism. The mural’s palette mirrors the hotel’s architecture, seamlessly linking art to its surroundings.
01. The Idea
a curated environment where art primes emotion, stirs curiosity, and leaves guests with a note
In the lobby, two works on paper by Serbian artist Dusica Pejic capture rhythm in motion. Her highly physical painting process infuses each stroke with the bounce and vitality of Gershwin’s music, translating sound into gesture. In the main staircase, custom vinyl stair risers feature dancing piano keys and fragments of Gershwin’s own words — revealed in sequence as guests ascend, turning movement through the space into a slow unfolding of story.
Throughout the Manhattan Lounge Bar and lobby, quotes from poets and thinkers — including Jacques Prévert — appear on mirrors and walls, quietly extending the theme of cultural dialogue. Black-and-white photography by Henk Visser, capturing jazz greats in intimate moments, anchors the experience in authenticity. All works were installed to museum standards, ensuring their preservation while elevating the guest journey.
