“By believing passionately in something that still does not exist, we
create it.
The nonexistent is whatever we have not sufficiently desired.”
- Kafka
When UBM Development AG invited VELVENOIR to curate the art for its new flagship hotel Andaz Prague, they weren’t simply asking for a collection, they were asking for a story. One that could reflect Prague’s soul and offer guests a cultural experience layered into every step of their stay.
Our response was to begin with the city itself.
We walked its streets. Sat in its libraries. Immersed ourselves in its myths, architecture, and atmosphere. Rather than starting with a list of artists or predefined concepts, we began with a question: What if the art inside the hotel could mirror the legends outside its walls?
01. The Idea
From that question, a curatorial vision emerged—The Walk of Myths.
VELVENOIR designed the entire art concept around the idea of an inner and outer journey. Each artwork, whether in the lobby or a private suite, is tied to a landmark in the city and a local legend—Princess Libuše, Knight Bruncvik, the Astronomical Clock, and others.
These stories were interpreted by a carefully selected group of Czech and international artists, each invited to explore the myths in their own language and medium. The result is a collection that doesn’t just decorate the hotel—it animates it.
From concept to commissioning, from procurement and artist guidance to framing, transport, and installation—we handled the entire process end-to-end. Working closely with Hyatt’s brand team, Madrid-based design studio BrimRobbins, and the international branding agency MadLove, we ensured each artistic decision remained consistent with the emotional tone and experiential goals of the hotel.
THE CONCEPT.
But the experience doesn’t end within the walls.
OUR COMMITMENT
A project that blends cultural strategy, art curation, and spatial storytelling into something lasting.
Through a QR-code-enabled booklet in every suite, guests are invited to follow the art back out into the city. A curated walking tour connects each work in the hotel to a real-world site, allowing guests to move between fiction and history, space and story.
Andaz Prague now holds a permanent contemporary art collection that does what great hotels should:
Make you feel where you are.
And maybe, even make you feel something more.
