Ai Weiwei “Er xi” exhibition at Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, Paris, 2016

Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche hosted the first personal exhibition in France of the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei. Using traditional Chinese kite-making techniques, the artist created characters and creatures inspired by Chinese mythology for the department store’s vitrines and atriums.

Under the iconic glass roof of Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota suspended 150 sculptural boats made of white threads. As part as her exhibition, the artist also sculpted a monumental, immersive wave, and woven labyrinths in the vitrines.

Lou Anmella

Lou Anmella is an Art Project Manager specialized in Chinese contemporary art. She is a co-founder of ACA project non-profit organization and the founder of Maison Jade art agency.

Lou holds a BA in Art History and English Literature and Civilization from the Paris Catholic Institute (FR), a MA in Art History from the Pantheon-Sorbonne University (Paris, FR) and a MA in Cultural Management from the Cergy-Pontoise University (FR). She began her career in 2015 at the luxury department store Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche in Paris (FR) where she helped manage the art and design collection, and organize exhibitions with international artists such as Martin Parr, Ai Weiwei, and Chiharu Shiota. Passionate about cultural exchanges and eager to facilitate the circulation of artistic creations from Asia to Europe and vice-versa, in 2015 Lou co-founded the non-profit organization ACA project, an online platform aiming to provide knowledge and understanding about Asian contemporary art to a French and English-speaking audience. Following a collaboration curating photographic exhibitions with the M97 gallery in Shanghai China in 2017, Lou is now based in Paris France. She recently launched the contemporary art agency Maison Jade and works with artists and galleries, offering curative direction, exhibition coordination and logistical support, to help bring their projects to fruition.
