#project insights on Thursday this summer, we had the pleasure to install the art at the beautifully designed beach villa in Zadar, Croatia where we joined the interior designer @juergen.hamberger from @steininger.designers in the initial stages with our art consultancy services. For the client, we developed an art concept based on the collectors' vision and interior concept - that entailed the two statement pieces (seen in the photo) from established artist Perry Roberts. In his oeuvre, the artist isn’t finished – Roberts’ works mark a departure from the post-minimalist tradition both in shape and in color. A recurring motif across most of his new works, the diagonal forges a subtle break with the movement’s uncompromising, hard-edged rectangles. Roberts exchanges this strict, straight line for a slightly tilted movement that nonetheless does not dominate the work. The diagonal line also draws viewers closer; especially in combination with the natural materials and somber colors, the presentation is grounded and appeals to viewers with an eye for detail.

What characterizes the art of painting? Not all the new works contain paint – this is Roberts’ way of questioning the fundamentals of painting. He looks beyond the surface and investigates the DNA of the canvas at a more profound level; he unveils the underlying structures of the painting tradition. The empty canvas, as the basic condition for conventional painting, is ignored and replaced with a new, constructed structure. Out of a ‘non-canvas’ with ‘non-colors’, Perry Roberts fashions an ‘unfinished’ painting.

#happy Sunday everyone, since so many have been asking us - here our story behind @velvenoir ” Our story started back in 2013, in the Australian Outback. Traveling from Alice Springs up to Darwin, exploring the land, people, and culture of Australia was an inspiring journey. And right there where aboriginal artists were creating artworks on self-made canvas out of cotton, with paint out of the plants growing in the Australian desert – the feeling when looking at the body of work connected with me very deeply. It´s hard to describe – but I guess anyone who collects art out of passion or found an artwork that belongs to them, understands me right here. It was there in the middle of nowhere where I decided to make contemporary art from career and indigenous artists accessible to anyone, while personally supporting my clients with all the resources and amazing contacts collected over the past years. #artist introduction on Friday Happy Friday everyone - today we would like to introduce you to Andrea’s work, where she demonstrates the importance of color in contemporary geometric abstraction. In a non-preconceived order, stripes of fluorescent colors are followed by other colors that play a counterpoint. This turbulence alternates with white stripes that speak of emptiness and plenitude. An oval as the center of the triptych presented here invites us to meditation. Fried was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1972. She obtained a degree in Business Administration from the University of Buenos Aires in 1996. While working in this field, she attended workshops with artists Juan Doffo and Sergio Bazán. In 2011 she sold her company, and distanced herself from her profession and devoted all her time to painting. She has had numerous individual and group exhibitions; among them, “Dispersed Meditations” at the Consulate of Argentina in New York, “Sincromatica” at the Museo de Arquitectura of the City of Buenos Aires, “Todos por 1-11-14” at Centro Cultural Recoleta, and “Suma + Arte” at Rubbers Gallery. In May of 2019 she will participate in the exhibition “Personal Structures”: “Open Border” at the European Cultural Centre, within the “Venice Biennial”. Her works are in the Museo Nacional de Arte Decorativo’s collection in the City of Buenos Aires.

#interiordesigners and projects speaking our language, this time we would like to share the project from Fernanda Marques @fernandamarquesarquiteta

A large-scale Nuno Ramos artwork brings a new sense of energy to this cosy art corner. One of Brazil’s most celebrated contemporary artists, Nuno Ramos primarily produces sculpture and installation works with unorthodox materials, including petroleum jelly, glass, and soap. The purpose of art, he has said, is to “insert ambiguity into a world that has become directional and monotonous.” He has also produced abstract works on paper inspired by poetry and other texts, and an installation of three architectural structures intended to represent the houses that the artist has lived in, surrounded by pools of clay or mud as if in the aftermath of a natural catastrophe. Ramos is also a poet and his visual art frequently incorporates textual elements.

#artist introduction on Thursday to keep you up-to-date within the primary market, we would like to introduce you to this emerging artist, Kathrin Sonntag - her photographs, objets trouvés and films mostly presented in the context of installations address the conditions of perception, observation, and cognition. Kathrin Sonntag plays with the paradoxical cultural history of photography, a medium that can depict “objective reality”, on the one hand, and manipulate the reality of the image, on the other. With a wink, the question “Can I believe my eyes?” is always present. The triptych “Conversation Piece” plays with the idiosyncratic analogy of the shapes of two things that actually do not belong together. During the process of categorization, which is characteristic of perception, new contexts of meaning arise in a “dance-like” way and, of course, the question of whether the motif might have been manipulated worms its way into this humorous moment of irritation. This magical play of visual rhymes and the ensuing new and unexpected meaning is continued in Kathrin Sonntag’s “Atlas”-series. Found and manipulated image material is set in a playful relation to her own motifs. The object-like feel of the photos created by folding alludes to the shape of a book, a picture atlas, in which the gaze of the viewer can “browse” endlessly.
