“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” ― Andy Warhol
A UNIQUE ENCOUNTER WITH ANDY WARHOL
For a boutique hotel, located in the heart of NYC, we’ve been approached by an interior designer to help her curate and source contemporary artworks reflecting the art concept around Andy Warhol
Few American artists are as ever-present and instantly recognizable as Andy Warhol in the entire world. Through his carefully cultivated persona and willingness to experiment with non- traditional art-making techniques, Warhol understood the growing power of images in contemporary life and helped to expand the role of the artist in society.
Part of our focus and concept was to capture and highlight the breadth, depth, and interconnectedness of the artist’s production: from his beginnings as a commercial illustrator in the 1950s, to his iconic Pop masterpieces of the early 1960s, to the experimental work in film and other mediums from the 1960s and 70s, to his innovative use of readymade abstraction and the painterly sublime in the 1980s. His repetitions, distortions, camouflaging, incongruous color, and recycling of his own imagery challenge our faith in images and the value of cultural icons, anticipating the profound effects and issues of the current digital age.
For our client, we’ve aligned our concept to the conceptual vision, where the hotel guest of tomorrow encounters more than just contemporary art that is inspired – our story is all about the unique encounter with Andy Warhol
“For us, it was important, to deeply research on the artists history from Andy Warhol starting from his vision, inspirations and milestones while picking and selecting artworks to curate an art experience, which not only tells the story of Andy Warhol but also invites the guest to understand, experience and learn more about him…
Special thanks goes to the artists and galleries from where we’ve sourced the art. All image copy rights belongs to the artists unless it’s expressed.
